Commuting Issues
Health Insurance Bicycle Commute Discount
I was doing my usual run taking the kids to school for the first time of the year and almost had two accidents. Not sure if it was because people are hitting the roads again for the first time, new drivers, people in a rush to get where they are going, but it was not a day to be thinking about anything other than driving. One driver ran a stop sign at a busy intersection barely missing two of us who had the right of way. The other incident happened at a round-about where a car did not even look and force me into the middle and another guy onto the shoulder. All this happened within my 20 minute circle to the schools then back to the house and my home office.
Why am I going on about this? Simple, it reminds me of some reasons why I got into the Work from Home industry in the first place.
I used to commute to and from work which took anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half. If there was an accident of any kind, you could tack on another hour easily. Now the time I used to spend in traffic, I use working at home. What used to be a tiresome, tedious and unproductive 2 hours, is now spent making money.
So lets take a good look at this from a profit versus expense point of view. The profit side is clear to me. Commuting you only profit once you get to where you work. Working from home you profit the entire time you are doing your business. On the expense side of commuting, you have gas, extra insurance costs (you do not need the extra mileage insurance when you work from home), and wear factor costs. This does not take into consideration any possible costs due to an accident during this time.
Ever thought about the health issues involved in commuting? Studies show that commuting raises stress levels considerably. Stress can lead to increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, and other health concerns. It is said that 75 to 90 percent of doctor visits are the result of stress related issues. Other health problems of long commutes include sleep disorders, obesity, hypertension, and even memory issues.
I look at all these factors and have to ask myself one question. Why did it take me so long to start a home based business?
