Health Insurance Plan Of Greater New York

Why are illegals to get state identification documents, health insurance employment programs & financial aid?

Although a U.S. Senate filibuster blocked passage of the federal DREAM Act, aimed at providing identification documents and even citizenship to undocumented minors, similar legislation is currently sponsored in both houses of the state Legislature.

The name of the act, an acronym for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors, if adopted by New York, would give qualified illegal aliens access to state identification documents, health insurance, employment programs and financial aid for higher learning.

“Undocumented youth in this great state go to school, love their families, participate in their communities and dream of bright futures,” said the bill’s Senate sponsor, Bill Perkins, D-Harlem. “These youth and their families deserve recognition and justice, not inequalities.”

The bill (S.4179/A.6892), sponsored in the Assembly by Guillermo Linares, D-Manhattan, would only apply to those who entered the country before the age of 16, completed high school or obtained an equivalent degree, have no felony convictions and have either completed two years toward a college degree or served in the National Guard.

“The New York DREAM Act is narrowly tailored to give youth who have grown up and gone to school in New York the opportunity to give back to our community and our economy,” said Perkins.

However, testimony at a state Senate public hearing April 8 suggested the act would make New York vulnerable to terrorists.

Mike Cutler, a retired Immigration and Naturalization Service special agent, who spoke at the Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee’s hearing, called access to driver’s licenses a key tool terrorists use to “hide in plain sight.”"Are there implications with the DREAM Act that go to the heart of what you’re talking about?” asked committee Chairman Greg Ball, R-Patterson.

“Absolutely,” replied Cutler.

“That’s why I’ve come to call the comprehensive immigration reform program the terrorist assistance and facilitation act,” said Cutler. “If you start to give people official identity documents and lawful status, then you’re providing them with an opportunity to create their own witness protection program.”

In 2007, former Gov. Eliot Spitzer created national controversy by pushing a plan that would have allowed undocumented immigrants to obtain New York driver’s licenses, a plan Spitzer gave up on after being met with overwhelming opposition.

After the hearing, Ball was asked whether he would be opposed to Perkins’ bill based on the testimony he heard.

“As chairman of Homeland Security and someone who realizes that the 19 hijackers on 9/11 had over 300 forms of identification, we’ve got to make sure that our New York state driver’s licenses and other forms of state identification are thorough and that they remain an international standard,” said Ball. “To the extent that any act or any legislative push would weaken that, I’d be against it. But we’ll see in future meetings.”

Let’s see how many lawsuits Holder brings against the sanctuary states who are proposing to aid the illegals. They are only too quick to sue states that propose laws that MIRROR federal laws, but turn a blind eye to states such as NY, CA and MD that blatantly ignore federal laws.

Joseph asks…

Should Obama’s Achievement Tax for Americans earning more that $250,000 be regionally adjusted?

I don’t know how $250,000 (if that is still the number) became a magic Income number but if what we are trying to do is to tax those with excess earnings (above what Democrats consider necessary) wouldn’t it make sense that the amount of earnings necessary to produce excess income would be greater in New York City or San Francisco than Des Moines or Flint. This could also be done by State if simplification is a goal. If I am getting the premise correct — some people have more many than they need — then shouldn’t need be determined by calculating the cost of a median home, health insurance, income taxes and other expenses on a State-by-State basis?

Otherwise, we are going to drive the wealthy from certain States and Cities which I assume isn’t part of the fundraising plan.

JustinL – The interest on a Mortgage can be deducted but not the principal, insurance premiums can be deducted when they exceed 7% of gross adjusted income. If you think a person earning $250,000 has the same amount left over after paying basic lfe bills no matter what State they live in, you must be living in a low cost, alternate Universe.

Chris Station answers:

You make a valid point, it should be by a state-state basis. For example I live in michigan which is the asshole of the united states. Here if you make 15$ an hour you’re making pretty good money for a lower-middle class individual.. But over in california i know someone who works just moving boxes around an office and makes 18.50 an hour and can barely pay the bills…. Neither of those meet the 250k a year standard.. But indeed it does cost significantly more to live in certain states.

To the answers above me..

–Yes, you still get taxxed the same, but regardless of that you WANT YOUR MONEY.. And thus may move to a state where it is cheaper to live, and thus save some of your money from things other than the taxxes.

To — Just Me

Yes, that IS his point, what hes saying is people that live in cities like san fran and NYC can cross over that 250k limit much easier than those that live in say.. Battle creek michigan. Here if you get a 250k a year job, you’ve pretty much got everything you want… In NYC if you have a 250k job you’re still well-off but its a major difference in the purchasing power of your money.

To just me

Then why haven’t you moved to a large city?,, .. Simple.. You don’t want to move.. Do you think Everyone else feels the same way?.. No.. A lot of people hate where they are from.. If someone offered me a lot of money to do what i’m doing now, hell yea i’d move i hate michigan.. Now if my taxxes went way up and I decided I could “make more by saving more” and move back here i would.. If I had a choice between making 500k a year with lavish living expenses of 120k a year in san fran with whatever amount taken out by taxxes.. And making 450k a year with lavish living expenses of 60k a year (and believe me, thats more than enough here).. I could move back here and save 11.25k$ a year (because i’m not paying 3% of 50k)

ya see, i could make 11.25k more a year by taking a 50k paycut 0.o..

Also, i realize you’re an obama supporter and like most of them you’re far to zealous.. But hes not really saying anything bad about obama.. Hes just suggesting an alternative method that still fits right in with his plan..

Edit — Samantha.. I agree with you completely.. But i just wannt say the “pursuit of happiness” isn’t in the constitution, thats the declaration of independance

Recommended Orthodontists in New York?

(1) I want to do braces but dont know where to go. I need recommendations!

(2) It is better if the orthodontist accept regular health insurance like MetLife or Atena.

(3) I want to know if the orthodontist in mahattan charges more than orthodontist in other boroughs.

Im planning on to do these regular, old-fashioned braces that will cure the upper teeth of my mouth…they are a little bit bucked.

if you have experience on wearing braces or think your doctor is doing great your suggestion will be helpful. thank you!!!
