Ice is to reduce swelling, heat is used once the swelling goes down, to increase blood flow to the injured area and promote healing. Some over the counter NSAID’s can be used too

See your Doctor for some stronger medicines and prescriptions if your pain persists. Training muscles around injuries are a specialty of mine, see books on the matter, as when you are healed enough you should try to improve the strength of the affected area.

Scar tissue massage. You can use mederma, vitamin E lotion, etc but the technique is important. Place your fingers on the scar perpendicular to the scar. Press down until you feel firm resistance. Move your fingers across the scar tissue back and forth. Do this for 30 seconds to 2 minutes. You need to make sure you are mobilizing the scar tissue underneath the skin, not on the skin itself.
