One of the most evasive things to actually obtain is inexpensive health insurance. For most who are self employed, this is an almost impossible feat. Any little health issue can just about eliminate you from the pool of the insured. At least that is the way it is presently. Hopefully in the next few months to a couple years, pre-existing conditions will no longer be an issue and inexpensive health insurance will be a certainty.
The recent health insurance reform bill that was passed into law sparked a lot of passion on both side of the aisle. Some arguments were legitimate but most entirely baseless rhetoric and fear mongering. As much as I love spirited debates, at least base debates on factual evidence.
The truth at the moment is the quest to find inexpensive health insurance if you are self-employed is nearly impossible. Even for people who are employed and have employer based health insurance, the cost for their health plans has spun out of control with less choice for you to pick from as your health insurance provider.
It has been reported that just a few years ago, employees could choose from several different insurer such as BCBS, United Health Care, Cigna, Kaiser, or Aetna. Now you have only one health insurer to choose from and there is no choice. Which sound like a monopoly on health insurance information by the health insurance industry.
Whether you were for health insurance reform or not, just the fact that a health insurance exchange will be formed for the high risk pool will spark competition among insurance companies. Competition always leads to lower prices which is economics 101. Eventually this exchange will be available to the masses which could only mean good things for Americans and inexpensive health insurance.
Are there flaws to health reform bill? Of course it is, but it is a framework that we can build on to bring down prices of health insurance.
